lies men believe

The men’s group at whataburger this morning talked about the lies that men believe. The discussion sprung from a look at Psalm 15:2 that says the man who lives in God’s presence speaks the truth in his heart – even when his heart is screaming out in selfish desire.

A book has been published by Nancy Leigh DeMoss called, “The Lies that Women Believe.” To my knowledge there’s not a counterpart for men. Here’s an alphabet’s worth of some of the lies that men believe. Some are from the discussion at whataburger, others I’ve added to the list…

a. No one will find out.
b. The consequences won’t be that bad.
c. I don’t need other people.
d. No one else has to go through what I do.
e. No one else faces the same temptations I do.
f. More money and possessions will make me more happy.
g. My situation is hopeless.
h. Intimacy is for women only.
i. I can’t help who I am.
j. I could never do anything great for God.
k. Its uncool to be humble, ask forgiveness, seek help.
l. Its uncool to be kind, considerate, and show grace.
m. A little time in church on Sunday is enough.
n. God has nothing to do with my work and hobbies.
o. My marriage is never going to be great.
p. The grass is always greener…
q. If my wife is unresponsive its okay to look elsewhere for what I need.
r. I shouldn’t have to live with unfulfilled marriage expectations.
s. I don’t have to meet my wife’s needs if she doesn’t meet mine.
t. Its impossible to relate to my wife.
u. I have to be perfect to please God.
v. Little sins are okay – everyone does them.
w. Church is for wimps.
x. All kids rebel.
y. If I had someone else’s life, I would be happy.
z. God is not able.

What would you put on the list?
