the relational danger of being pleasure-driven
Date: 21 October, 2008 | Posted By: Brian | Category: Faith
relationship proverb from proverbs 21
He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich. vs. 17 (new american standard)
At first glance it may seem like this proverb has little to do with relationships. Its truth however hits at the core of what it means to have and keep good friends. A person consumed with themselves and their pleasure will find themselves in great poverty. While the automatic assumption here is a material poverty, the truth is thatthere a relational poverty also comes to a person who loves pleasure. They set themselves and the pleasure of their senses up over the value of people and their relationships.
- pleasure-driven people are consumed with what makes them happy instead of what makes others happy.
- pleasure-driven people use others to fill their pleasures instead of serving others
- pleasure-driven people will often overlook or ignoreGod’s ways in pursuit of their pleasure
- pleasure-driven people leave a trail of broken relationships
- pleasure-driven people lack contentment, joy, and peace in their current situation
